Endorsement Requirements

• Obtain an endorsement letter from an approved endorsing body
• Ensure the endorsement is not older than 3 months at the time of applying
• The endorsing body must not withdraw your approval

Visa Application Requirements

For entry clearance:

• Have a valid endorsement letter
• The endorsing body must not have withdrawn the endorsement

For leave to remain:

• Your endorsing body must not have withdrawn the endorsement

Points-Based System

For all applications, you must meet a 70-point threshold, which includes points for maintaining a valid endorsement or receiving a recognised prize, and for extensions; earning a sufficient income in your field during your previous grant of permission.

The required 70 points are allocated differently for initial applications and extensions.

Global Talent Visa Based on Endorsement

For most applicants, the application process for the Global Talent visa is in two stages. Without a prize as listed in Appendix Global Talent: Prestigious Prizes, first, you apply to be endorsed by an approved body. Only with endorsement can you proceed to apply for the actual visa from the Home Office.

The endorsing bodies are charged with assessing applications from individuals within their respective professional fields, and developing and applying sector-specific criteria and evidential requirements for applications. The relevant endorsing bodies will then make an endorsement decision based on your profile and the evidence you provide.

Four Routes to Endorsement

There are four routes to endorsement under the Global Talent category applicable to different roles.

1. Peer review – endorsement of applications by The British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering or The Royal Society. 
2. Senior appointments – endorsement for applicants with a job offer as a professor, associate professor, reader, senior group leader or equivalent at any UK higher education institution or eligible research institute, by the British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering, and The Royal Society. 
3. Fellowships – endorsement for those with an individual fellowship (either current or held within the last 12 months), on the list approved by The British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering and Royal Society.
4. Endorsed funders – a visa route for researchers who make critical contributions to work supported by grant funding from a recognised funder. Qualifying applicants will be fast-tracked to the Home Office visa application stage with minimal evidential requirements, where they meet the individual eligibility criteria. UKRI will be responsible for assessing endorsed funded applications.

Endorsements For Digital Technology

Tech Nation serves as the designated endorsing body for the digital technology sector under the Global Talent visa program. There is no cap on the number of visas granted to eligible applicants in this field. 

To secure Tech Nation’s endorsement in Digital Technology, candidates must fall into one of two categories:

1. Technical specialists: Individuals who can demonstrate expertise in building technological infrastructure and working with various technology stacks.
2. Business leaders: Professionals who can showcase their commercial acumen, investment track record, or product expertise in developing digital products or managing investments in large-scale digital enterprises.

To apply for a Digital Technology endorsement from Tech Nation, you need to provide:

1. A comprehensive CV detailing your work history and publications.
2. Three letters of recommendation from distinct, well-regarded organisations in the digital technology sector.

These recommendation letters should:

• Convey the author’s belief in your exceptional potential

Endorsements for Exceptional Individuals in Film & Television

The UK welcomes highly skilled professionals in the film and television industries through the Global Talent visa program. There is no cap on the number of individuals who can receive endorsement under the Film and Television subcategory of the Global Talent route. Arts Council England has partnered with the Producers’ Alliance for Film and Television (PACT) to evaluate the qualifications of applicants seeking endorsement in the fields of film, television, animation, post-production, and visual effects.

It is important to note that applicants working in animation, post-production, visual effects, and film must demonstrate “exceptional talent” to secure endorsement from PACT. The organisation does not endorse candidates who show “exceptional promise” but have not yet reached the highest echelons of expertise in their respective fields. This ensures that the Global Talent visa is reserved for the most accomplished and experienced professionals in these competitive industries.

Endorsements for Outstanding Architects

The UK’s Global Talent visa offers a unique opportunity for internationally recognized architects to live and work in the country. The Architecture subcategory of the Global Talent route has no limit on the number of individuals who can receive endorsement. The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), acting on behalf of Arts Council England, is responsible for assessing whether applicants are current or potential leaders in the field of architecture.

To secure an endorsement from RIBA, architects must demonstrate a history of professional employment, creating high-quality work that has garnered international recognition through publications, presentations, or exhibitions. Applicants should have consistently worked as professional architects over the past five years.

The Global Talent visa route offers unlimited endorsements for exceptional candidates in the fields of Science, Engineering, Humanities, and Medicine. Endorsement applications are assessed by the following prestigious bodies:

• The Royal Society: For applications in natural and medical sciences
• The Royal Academy of Engineering: For applications in engineering
• The British Academy: For applications in humanities and social sciences
• UK Research and Innovation (UKRI): For science and research applications

These organisations evaluate applicants based on their current standing as leaders in their respective fields or their potential to become future leaders. The specific endorsement requirements depend on whether the applicant is applying under the Fast Track or Full Peer Review criteria.

Fast Track Endorsement

To qualify for the Fast Track endorsement, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

Full Peer Review Endorsement

Endorsement in Arts & Culture

Arts Council England assesses applications for the Global Talent Visa in the fields of combined arts, dance, literature, music, theatre, and visual arts, including those working in an artistic context in galleries and museums. To be eligible, applicants must be industry leaders or demonstrate the potential to become leaders in their respective fields.

The Global Talent route’s Arts and Culture subcategory has no restriction on the number of candidates who can be supported. To receive an Arts and Culture endorsement from Arts Council England, you must be professionally creating work of exceptional quality that has been performed, presented, distributed, or exhibited internationally.

If you are applying based on exceptional talent, you must have consistently worked as a professional practitioner in your field for the past five years and show a significant track record in more than one country. On the other hand, if you are applying based on exceptional promise, you must demonstrate a developing track record in one or more countries.

The Global Talent Visa Endorsement in Arts & Culture provides a unique opportunity for industry leaders and promising individuals to showcase their exceptional work on an international scale. Arts Council England recognizes and supports the contributions of professionals across various artistic disciplines, fostering global cultural exchange and collaboration. This visa category enables talented individuals to further their careers and make a significant impact in the world of arts and culture.

Endorsements in Fashion

The British Fashion Council (BFC), acting on behalf of Arts Council England, is responsible for assessing applicants in the fashion design sector for the Global Talent Visa. The only stipulation is that the award must not have been rescinded.

This approach acknowledges the recipient’s demonstrated exceptional talent, as recognised by their prestigious award.

Application Process 

Applying for a Global Talent Visa

Global Talent visa applications can be submitted online from both within and outside the UK. Overseas applicants should seek entry clearance at their nearest visa appointment centre. UK-based applicants may switch to this visa if they currently hold valid status under specific categories, including Start Up, Innovator, Tier 1, Skilled Worker (Tier 2), Tier 5, or Student (Tier 4, excluding Short Term Student Visa).

For prestigious prize holders, the online application can be completed immediately. Those seeking endorsement may apply before securing it, but be aware that visa rejection will follow if endorsement is not approved. Successfully endorsed applicants receive an email from the Home Office with the endorsement letter, initiating a three-month window for visa application submission.
